Description
A Gauntlet-style romp for the Game Boy Advance, Monster Force offers players the chance to control adolescent incarnations of Universal Studios' venerable monster characters -- Wolfman, Dracula, and Frankenstein -- as they set out to solve the mystery surrounding Victor Frankenstein's disappearance. Wolfie, Drac, and Frankie have varying characteristics, from nimble but weak to slow and strong. Utilizing basic projectile attacks, players must fight their way through the overwhelming tide of enemies that infest each of the game's 35 maze-like levels. While navigating the labyrinthine environments players will need to acquire keys, flip switches, and make use of teleporters in order to make significant headway through the nine unique environments. Boss characters are scattered throughout the adventure, and will try their utmost to defeat the young ghouls.
Additional objectives, such as finishing a level within a defined time limit or not taking damage, increase the ranking (Bronze, Silver, or Gold) awarded at the end of each level. Atoms, the in-game currency, can be exchanged between levels at Igor's Shop for temporary, one-time power-ups or Relics, items that will permanently affect your chosen character's health, attack, or speed rating. While previously beaten levels can be replayed to earn more Atoms, skilled players will destroy enemies and items in particular sequences, which in turn yield more Atoms. A two-player multiplayer mode offers Deathmatch competition in any of the nine arenas unlocked during the main single-player quest. Each player requires a copy of the game to utilize this feature.
